Baby Toolbox Motor Measures
This course provides an in-depth overview of the motor assessments available within the NIH Baby Toolbox iPad App. Designed for users familiar with administering standardized assessments to infants and young children, this course walks you through each individual measure, reviewing key administration tips to ensure consistency and accuracy.
In this course you will:
- Learn how to administer and score Get up and Go and Reach to Eat.
- Review strategies for becoming a confident and competent examiner, including opportunities for practice.
For this course, you must complete the following steps:
- Begin with the video modules
Start by reviewing the video modules in order. For the best experience, we recommend having your iPad with the Baby Toolbox App already installed so you can follow along. Whenever possible, watch the videos with a training partner—this allows you to pause and practice role-playing together after each module for hands-on learning. - Complete scoring practice
After reviewing all modules, you will have the opportunity to practice scoring. In this section, you will watch videos of sample administration and answer questions about how to score the measure.- After you respond to each question, you will will be shown the correct answer.
- Answer each question to the best of your ability, then compare your response to the correct answer. Re-watch the video as needed to understand how the behavior was scored.
- Take this seriously—it’s an important part of the learning process. Understanding why a behavior was scored in a particular way will help you identify what you need to go back and further review.
You are welcome to repeat the scoring practice as many times as you like. If you have questions, you can always return to the video modules or refer to the administration manual.
- Move on to scoring quizzes
Once you feel comfortable with the practice materials, proceed to the Scoring Quizzes. These are designed to test your knowledge:- During the quiz, you will enter your responses for each question.
- At the end of each quiz, proceed to the answers to see what you got right or wrong.
Once you’ve completed the quizzes, make sure to review the “Completion and Certification” Course to determine what additional administration practice need to do before testing participants.
